Things To Do in West Cork

West Cork is "A Place Apart" and Clonakilty is a wonderful base for touring the West Cork region.  People here value the good things in life.  It feels warm-herted and kind.  It's a place that takes its time and helps us to slow down.

Clonakilty town is a seaside town and is filled with character, top restaurants and cosy pubs alive with great music.  Strolling through the town, the heritage and history of the town is evident with brewery buildings, mills and quayside warehouses. Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy local produce every Friday morning at the Clonakilty market or take a take a stroll on the beach at Inchdoney.

Explore Mizenhead Bridge and feel the Atlantic crashing beneath you.   Visit the nearby fishing ports of Balitmore and Glandore.  Take a ferry and hear the native Irish tongue on the islands of Cape Clear, Sherkin and Dursey. Have an adventure and go hiking, walking or cycling at Sheep's Head and Beara. The whole coast echoes with history - ancient sites, ruined castles and coastal fots.  Cork is proudly the "rebel" county and it was here at Clonakilty, where Micheal Collins, the Irish patriot lived and died during the Civil War.

Clonakilty District is an European Destingation of Excellence for Best Emerging Rural Tourism Destination, a regular winner in the Irish Tidy Towns Competion and was also the first won inIreland to receive the "Fair Trade" status.  It also received the Cittaslow status in 2011.
